News Update #2 – Some changes
Hello! There have been some changes to the Free Skool’s workshop schedule. The most recent lineup is as follows:
10:30am – 11:30am Guerrilla Gardening (feat. Duke Wellington)
The Duke will engage us in a discussion about public space and teach us how to make seed-balls of our own!
11:45am – 12:45pm Organizing on the Street (feat. Andrew of the Panhandler’s Union)
The title says it all!
12:45pm – 1:30pm Vegan LUNCH (w/ The G-Spot) ($2 suggested donation)
Supplies are limited, and we don’t do dishes so be sure to bring your own tupperware!
1:30pm – 2:30 pm Knitting & Arts & Crafts session
Help us make EXILE more beautiful by creating some fun artwork or crafts for the space. Supplies will be provided, but we encourage you to also bring in your own stuff to share!
2:45pm – 5:45pm Activism & Risk (feat. Denis Rancourt)
We top off the day with an analysis and discussion of activism lead by Denis, professor of Ottawa U’s highly controversial Activism Course. What motivates people in society? What is the social landscape and what are the underlying perceptions and beliefs that underpin one’s stance and actions? What are effective activist strategies and methods? The answer to “What should we do?” depends on what we believe to be the truth about the world. His conclusion is one based on the anarchist ideal where we must constantly strive to create more democracy via social justice activism that confronts power and its structures that affect our lives. We must make it personal. Our political activism necessarily involves both risk and solidarity.
Be sure to arrive on time, as space is very limited!

As planned, EXILE’s Infoshop space is officially opening on Tuesday, May 1st, 2007 – MayDay! Even though it’s a Tuesday we’ll be open from noon to 6pm, so be sure to come by on this momentous day in radical history. Munch on some vegan snacks, browse our titles, explore our little library, meet some awesome new people…

Also, be sure not to miss the MayDay rally! Everyone is meeting up at the Human Rights Monument (Lisgar & Elgin) at noon on May 1, and we will proceed from there. Come out and march in solidarity with all the workers of the world whose lives and livelihoods have needlessly been put at risk, time and time again. We also march in celebration of the working class and labour movements’ various social and economic acheivements.
“Statues are things that we build to remind us of things that have died.”
