NEWS:: EXILE’s Stance Concerning Evan Dalrymple’s Collaboration With the Police

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

EXILE INFOSHOP has permanently banned Evan Dalrymple from our space since being informed of his willing collaboration with the Ottawa Police. Police collaboration is unacceptable and, making the matters worse, his conscious initiative to provide the police with misinformation has resulted – either partly or fully – in charges that could land Matt Morgan-Brown, a respected member of the Anarchist/Activist community, in jail.

Evan Dalrymple has also been asked to refrain from attending Infoshop and Infoshop related events.

We feel that in order to provide a safe and informant-free environment for the activist community, we simply cannot do so with Evan present, seeing as he cannot be trusted. Until he takes responsibility for his actions, he remains a threat to the community and will be actively shunned, ostracized and confronted.

The type of behavior for which Evan is held responsible presents a profound threat to the security and proper functioning of the radical community. Whether his decision to divulge information to the police was driven by personal malice, using information for financial gain or, the broader possibility, that he is acting as an intelligence agent for the state, we no longer feel comfortable including him in any and all activist related events.

This also acts as a warning for all other groups to consider excluding Evan Dalrymple from further organizing. It is important to note that this incident has coincided with a pattern of dubious and duplicitous activity. In the past, the INFOSHOP has had to address accusations of mistrust, theft and deceit explicitly regarding Evan Dalrymple.

Finally we want to make it very clear that we resent having to make this decision. Furthermore, we resent the decisions that Evan has made and the actions he has taken; forcing us to react to them. What Evan Dalrymple has done is utterly unacceptable and it is imperative that he take responsibility for his actions AND begin making reparations for the damages he has caused to Matt and to the activist community.

THE DAY THE COUNTRY DIED: A HISTORY OF ANARCHO PUNK 1980-1984

(UK / 90 minutes / 2007 / English)

“The rise of anarcho punk in the wake of Crass finally saw punk rock
become the movement it always threatened to be in the late Seventies.
Suddenly punk wasn’t about the clothes you wore, the music you played,
it was about what was in your head, what was in your heart. Bands like
Conflict, Flux of Pink Indians, Subhumans, The Mob, Zounds, and quite
literally hundreds more, took the sentiments of Crass in myriad musical
directions, but always maintained as their primary motivation a desire
to offer a genuine alternative to the mainstream.

Such purity in purpose was not sustainable forever, of course, and by
the mid-Eighties, anarcho punk had almost become a parody of itself, the
scene having adopted – for the most part – a standardized look, sound
and stance that almost rendered it as redundant as that which it had set
out to overthrow. But, for a few short years back then, anarcho punk was
the most vital, exciting and downright subversive music to ever spring
forth from a loudspeaker, its power and passion a far cry from what is
so often passed off as revolutionary music today. Yet so little has been
done to seriously document that groundbreaking period of the UK
underground, even massive sellers like Crass seemingly swept under the
carpet, out of sight, out of mind, the ‘poor relations’ of the
infinitely safer bands laughably lauded by the media as ‘true punk’.

Until now that is, and the publication of Ian Glasper’s book, “The Day
the Country Died’, which peels away the myths one by one, through
all-new interviews and exhaustive research. This [film], by renowned
maverick filmmaker Roy Wallace (himself one-time vocalist with Belfast
band, Toxic Waste) is the visual companion to that work, concisely
relating the real story of anarcho punk via a wealth of exclusive new
interviews and ultra rare archive footage. Between this [film] and that
book, anarcho punk finally gets a fair hearing, and not before time!”

Anarchist Discussion Group: Montebello Debriefing

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007
2007/09/02
13:30to15:30

By popular demand!

An open discussion about the actions in Ottawa and Montebello on August 19-21, as well as the actions during the lead-up to Montebello.

Groups such as the Stop SPP Coalition a PGA Bloc Ottawa have already had internal discussions about the actions in Montebello. However, many other local activists who attended anti-SPP events have not yet had this opportunity.

What were your experiences in anti-SPP organizing and/or actions? What were the successes and failures of Ottawa-based organizing against the SPP? What could we do better? How should we respond to the presence of provocateurs? How should we respond to police attempts to divide us into “good” and “bad” protestors? How can we better show solidarity to those arrested or injured at actions?

If there are readings, they are optional and will be summarized at the beginning of the discussion.
